After morning pickup by minivan from your Scottsdale or Phoenix hotel, travel a short distance to the sweeping McDowell Sonoran Preserve, a roughly 30,000-acre (12,140-hectare) sanctuary where you can observe a rich array of desert plants and animals. Embark on an easy guided hike, covering approximately .75 miles (1.2 km) along a flat trail — perfect for all age groups and agility levels. As you capture photos of the starkly beautiful landscape, listen to your guide discuss the flora and geologic features of the Sonoran Desert, as well as share insight about the Hohokam Indians who flourished here until the early 14th century.

Continue on to the Southwest Wildlife Conservation Center where your guide, a trained docent of the center, will enable you to have VIP access to rescued wild animals including Mexican gray wolves, black bears, bobcats, mountain lions and the pig-like javelina. Watch the animals being fed, and hear each one's unique story. Learn about how the center returns the animals to the wild whenever possible and seeks to achieve that goal. Your time with the animals will give you a deeper appreciation of the importance of preserving the Sonoran Desert's wild and pristine nature.

Your 6-hour desert adventure concludes with drop-off at your Scottsdale or Phoenix hotel.
