Day 1: Adelaide Barossa Valley (L) (D Lyndoch Hill Motel only)
After pickup in Adelaide, step aboard your air-conditioned coach for the scenic drive to the Barossa Valley. From your guide, get oriented to the region's history and landmarks as your coach follows the River Torrens, passes through the Torrens Gorge and sails through Williamstown, the southern gateway to the Barossa Valley.
About one hour into your journey, stop at Lyndoch Bakery for a complimentary coffee or Devonshire tea and a sample platter of German-style baked treats. Then continue to your first stop in the Barossa Valley: Jacob’s Creek.
One of Australia’s most famous wineries, Jacob’s Creek was started by an immigrant from Bavaria in 1847. Learn more about its history and wines during a walking tour of the vineyards, followed by a guided tasting of several of their wines.
Next your coach climbs to the Menglers Hill Lookout for views of the valley’s vineyards, farms and rolling hills. Just below the lookout, note the impressive outdoor sculptures at the Barossa Sculpture Park.
Continue through the valley to reach the Barossa Chateau. On the extensive grounds, take in the 22-acre
(9-hectare) rose gardens and more than 30,000 roses. Indoors, admire the
impressive collection of 18th- and 19th-century art and antiquities in
the chateau's grand ballroom, including porcelain from famous producers
such as Sevres, Meissen, Worchester, Chelsea and Stinton.
Head to the restaurant for a platter of regional foods for lunch, with optional wine for purchase to accompany your meal. Afterward, visit Creed Wines, also located on the chateau’s property, to taste their fine wines.
At this point in the day, your guide drops you off at your hotel and you have the rest of the day free to spend at your leisure. If you've selected the Lyndoch Hill Motel, enjoy a 2-course dinner (deluxe room includes wine and cheese).
Overnight: Lyndoch Hill Motel or Barossa Chateau
Day 2: Barossa Valley Adelaide (B Lyndoch Hill Motel only)
Enjoy breakfast (if option selected), and have the first half of the day free to do as you please before your coach picks you up in the early afternoon to travel to Hahndorf. With your guide, see the highlights of this small town in the Adelaide Hills, known for being the oldest German settlement still existing in Australia. You’ll disembark from the coach to walk down the main street and admire the craft shops, tea rooms, quaint cottages, and 100-year-old elm and plane trees.
After some leisure time in Hahndorf, start your return trip to Adelaide, passing through the pretty Adelaide Hills and villages including Crafers, Stirling, Aldgate and Bridgewater. Your tour ends with drop-off at your Adelaide hotel in the early evening.
