Your experienced guide picks you up at your Alice Springs hotel for a morning ride to through the West MacDonnell Ranges to Wallace Rockhole.
As you walk around Wallace Rockhole, learn from your guide about ancient Aboriginal rock art, hand stencils, and the history of the Aranda people as well as the secrets of bush medicine and tucker. Then sample some kangaroo meat and freshly baked damper (bread cooked over a fire). After your snack, an indigenous artist leads you through an Aboriginal dot-painting experience while sharing the history of this ancient cultural tradition.
Enjoy a Ploughman’s lunch at Wallace Rockhole, then say farewell to your hosts. Drive to the Hermannsburg Heritage Precinct, established in 1877 as the first Aboriginal mission in the Northern Territory. Hear about the influence of German Lutherans on Aboriginal people in central Australia as you walk through historic Lutheran mission buildings.
The heritage-listed mission is known for being the last surviving mission sponsored by the Hermannsburg Missionary Society. It is also the home of acclaimed Aboriginal artist, Albert Namatjira. Stop by Namatjira's house and the Hermannsburg Watercolour Gallery.
Afterward, relax on a tea room veranda, taking in the beautiful surroundings as you nibble on Hermannsburg’s famous apple strudel and scones for afternoon tea.
Once you have finished your tea, head back to Alice Springs with a short stop at Simpsons Gap; keep your camera ready for for black-footed rock wallabies. You can also take an optional sunset camel ride, soaking up the views of the MacDonnell Ranges atop your trusty humpbacked mode of transportation.
Your guide returns you to your Alice Springs hotel to end the tour.
