After pickup from your Katoomba or Leura hotel or the train station, you’ll travel in a rugged 4WD vehicle into Australia’s famous Blue Mountains. You get access to areas of the national park that can’t be reached by tour buses. Out in the great wide open, enjoy fantastic views of the Three Sisters rock formation.
As you cruise along, your experienced guide shares information about the region, including legends of the aboriginal peoples and the history of early European explorers. Throughout the day, you’ll be able to stop for photos and short walks as you learn about the natural history of the area from your guide.
Take a break for a picnic lunch at the lovely Twin Falls. You'll be served a deluxe spread, accompanied by delicious Australian wine and cheeses. Take in the incredible scenery as you enjoy your meal.
Once you’re rejuvenated, you’ll continue through the rugged Blue Mountains and across the Great Dividing Range, a stretch of roads that lead to famous attractions such as the Zig Zag and, your next stop, Jenolan Caves.
When you arrive at Jenolan Caves, you’ll take a guided tour of the ancient site. Admire dramatically lit limestone formations and the underground rivers that flow through this subterranean world. Your visit includes Jenolan's largest cave, Lucas Cave, where classical concerts are performed in the remarkable acoustics of the Cathedral chamber.
Near the caves, Australian wildlife such as wallabies, wombats and lyre birds may be spotted at dusk. Take a short stroll to a mountain lake to see if you can sneak a peek at the very shy (and rarely seen) platypuses that live there.
At the end you your tour, your guide returns you to your hotel or the train station.
