Day 1: Darwin -- Kakadu National Park (L)
Leaving Darwin, journey along the regional Stuart Highway and Arnhem Highway to Kakadu National Park, passing the area’s significant river systems and wetland regions. Cross the South Alligator River to visit the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries of World Heritage-listed Ubirr Rock. Learn the history and legends behind the rock art and photograph the stunning views over surrounding wetlands. Hear more about the Aboriginal legends on a visit to the Bowali Centre and view the center’s informative displays on the area’s flora and fauna. Continue to Cooinda to take an afternoon cruise on the Kakadu wetlands, and experience the beauty of this stunning landscape close up. Have the remainder of the day and evening to relax at your accommodation at Cooinda.

Day 2: Cooinda -- Anbangbang Billabong -- Nourlangie Rock -- Barramundi Gorge -- Darwin (L)
Start your day with a visit the Nourlangie region of the Kakadu National Park, with its waterways and views. Travel to the Nourlangie Rock art site to see galleries of ancient Aboriginal rock art, and expand your appreciation of this important place by listening to your guide’s insightful interpretation of the art and the area’s rich Aboriginal history.

Then visit nearby Anbangbang Billabong for a wildlife-spotting excursion in the shadow of Nourlangie Rock. Look out for wildlife hiding in the pool's surrounding swamps, woodlands and sandstone plateaus. Spot water birds swimming in the billabong, and wallabies and kangaroos grazing on the foliage at the water’s edge. Then travel off the beaten track to Barramundi Gorge, where a short return walk through native forest leads to a small waterfall and clear plunge pool with the opportunity to swim. It’s a moderate walk, with some more difficult areas requiring a certain level of fitness. In the late afternoon, leave Kakadu National Park and return to Darwin following the old 4WD Jim Jim Road.
