After morning pickup from your Hervey Bay hotel or Rivers Head Ferry Landing, board the ferry to Fraser Island. When you arrive at the island, your comfortable four-wheel drive (4WD) is one of the first vehicles to drive off the ramp. From there, drive through a subtropical rainforest to idyllic Lake McKenzie. Stop for a swim in the pristine lake or relax on the white-sand beach while your guide prepares a morning tea of traditional Australian lamington cakes, a Tasmanian cheese and fruit platter, and fresh coffee and tea.

After a refreshing swim and tea, cruise along Seventy-Five Mile Beach, where you may see some of the island’s wild dingoes. Arrive at the SS Maheno shipwreck to take photos. Then drive to the Pinnacles where your guide shares Aboriginal legends about the area and explains how the technicolor sand cliffs were formed.

Next, head to Champagne Pools for an ocean swim in natural sandy pools sheltered from the crashing surf. At the beach, tuck into a picnic lunch consisting of fresh-baked rolls with ham, salami, chicken or beef; a selection of tasty salads; and beer, sparkling wine and soft drinks.

After lunch, continue to Indian Head for a walk along the headland to capture stunning views. Keep an eye open for sharks, dolphins, rays, turtles and migrating humpback whales (July to November) in the waters below. Feeling adventurous? When you arrive at your next stop, Eli Creek, you have the option to take a short walk to a point where you can float down to the beach on the creek's gentle current. Otherwise, climb right back into the 4WD after you admire the surroundings.

Your day on Fraser Island wraps up after your time at Eli Creek. Soak up the sights as you drive back to the ferry and return to your hotel.
