Day 1: Hobart  Bruny Island (L, D)
After pickup from your Hobart hotel and a 30-minute scenic drive to the coastal town of Kettering, transfer to the ferry for the short ride over to Bruny Island. After arrival, head down the Bruny Island Neck, a slip of land that runs between the northern and southern sections of the island.

Visit lookouts at Adventure Bay and the Hummock for an overview of the island’s landscape, with sweeping views of oyster farms, long sandy beaches, and pristine grasslands and forest. Little penguins nest in the vicinity and nearby stands an important Aboriginal site, the Truganini Memorial. In Adventure Bay, check out a display about Captain Cook that details his time at Bruny Island in the late 1700s.

Stop for morning tea at the Bruny Island Berry Farm or Forestvale Design Centre and Gallery, where delicious baked treats feature locally grown fruit and jam. Afterward, you might take a stroll down the beach or even go for a swim. Then continue past Mount Mangana and Cloudy Bay en route to to INALA (Cape Bruny is at the end of the day at sunset) Cape Bruny Lighthouse. At the lighthouse, learn about the solitary lives of the lighthouse keepers and keep your eyes peeled for humpback and southern right whales during their migration. Experience the only sunset lighthouse tour in Tasmania and southern most lighthouse tour in Australia.

When you have worked up an appetite, head to the Bruny Island Premium Wines for a delicious lunch that features fresh, local-caught fish, Tasmanian lamb and beef, and seasonal island-grown produce. Wash it all down with wine and whiskey tastings.

You also take leisurely walks and look for native wallabies, echidnas and a variety of birds during a stop at Inala Private Reserve. Wrap up with a sumptuous dinner at Hotel Bruny and sunset over the Tasman Sea.

Day 2: Bruny Island  Hobart (B, L)
After a leisurely morning breakfast at Forestvale Design Centre, meet your guide for more exploration of Bruny Island’s natural treasures and culinary goods, enjoying time to linger in your favorite places and to soak in the scenery. You’ll stop for another delicious morning tea and picnic hamper lunch before catching the afternoon ferry back to the mainland.

Make sure to save some room for the afternoon’s visits to local food producers, where you taste artisan cheeses at the Bruny Island Cheese Company, smoked salmon at BISH and fresh oysters at Get Shucked. Wash it all down with wine and whiskey tastings. In Kettering, visit a celebrated chocolatier who demonstrates the chocolate-making process and offers samples of mouthwatering treats. Your tour ends in the evening when you are returned to your hotel in Hobart.
