Depart from Melbourne in the late afternoon by comfortable coach, following the Yarra River through the leafy southeastern suburbs and rural countryside, before arriving at the bridge to Phillip Island. As you travel, listen to informative commentary from your guide about the sights you pass along the way.
Drive through the fishing village of San Remo as you cross the only bridge onto Phillip Island, stopping at the excellent Phillip Island Visitor Information Centre. Browse exhibits about Phillip Island's abundant wildlife, which includes koalas, fur seals, mutton birds and other migratory birds in addition to tonight’s star attraction, the little penguins.
Little penguins are the smallest penguin species, and the fact that the world’s largest colony of them can be easily visited at Phillip Island makes this a don’t-miss opportunity! Penguin experts estimate that as many as 32,000 little penguins live on Phillip Island. During your visit, learn about conservation issues involved in protecting Phillip Island's wildlife. Revenue from ticket sales gets invested back into research, environmental protections, and education projects to ensure that the penguins and other wildlife flourish.
As the sun sets, head to the beach where you have a choice of the basic seating option on stands with tiered seating or choose the upgrade (details below) for prime penguin viewing. Watch hundreds of little penguins emerge from the sea and waddle along the sand to their burrows, where they feed their young with their day's catch of anchovies and pilchards.
Be sure to bring warm clothes as the ocean air can get cold at night. At the end of the penguin viewing, your coach returns you to Melbourne (about a 90-minute drive) to end your tour, with drop off at select Melbourne hotels.
Penguin Plus Viewing Platform
Before the parade, enjoy a more personalised wildlife viewing in an area limited to 300 people with ranger interpretation giving you a closer viewing of the Penguin arrival than the main viewing stands.

I'm a penguin fanatic and these little guys did not disappoint. It was wet and rainy, but it didn't dampen my thrill to see these guys. Worth the bus ride from Melbourne. Very picturesque.

Seeing the penquins was amazing! We paid a little more to view them from the platform.- definitely worth it! Although, I can't speak for the other's experiences If you can, try sitting on the right side near the path for the best view. But, if you can't, you will still see them waddle down the path. After they have made it past the platform, they will continue up and through the bush so you can actually see them from the walkway too. Great experience!

We had a very good and knowledgeable guide, Roger, from AAT Kings, though the booking was with Viator. I must say I am a little disappointed at the penguin parade as the number of penguins that made an appearance was small... not sure if it is the season as i understand the parade tends to be bigger. However, one bonus at the venue was that i had an amazing view of the sky with stars, maybe the lights in that area was low, the view of the milky way, the starry starry night, was just fantastic. if you have a chance to do the penguin parade, don't forget to look up the sky .... for a city girl like me, that was the highlight of the nigh!

Love it! Those little creatures are just so great and funny. Without tour wouldn't be able to see them, and would have missed something. Take a lot of warm clothes with you, since to get a best place to see, you have to be there early, and it you might get cold. Once again tour quide Mark was good, and learned a lot about Phillip Island in a bus on our way there. Keep your eyes open, and you will see lots of wallabies on the way.

Lovely to see these amazing wee creatures returning from a long day of fishing. A long trip there and back though worth it. I was disappointed at the lack of food choices available at the venue. Very expensive what was available. 8 for some Chips. Maybe consider taking your own food. well worth the long drive

The Phillip island penguin parade is as advertised, a spectacular sight. Our driver struggle with logistics of passing out tickets at the site, and left most of the passengers trapped on the bus, while he chase down some escaping tourists.

We highly recommend this tour and especially the penguin viewing plus experience. The tour itself was arranged by Aatkings, and I must say booking viator has given very considerable discounts as against direct booking with AAtking tours.
Viewing penguin at their natural habitat after they return from their long day hunt to shore is magical experience.
Added highlight is AAtking bus driver he was totally funny throughout the tour!
