Christchurch Gondola:
Ride up to the top of Mt Cavendish inside a fully enclosed cabin on the Christchurch Gondola. The gondola climbs the mountain in approximately 10 minutes and starts from Heathcote Valley, about a 15-minute drive from central Christchurch. Disembark at Summit Station, situated 1,500 feet (500 meters) above sea level, and take in panoramic views from indoor and outdoor viewing decks; on a clear day, you can see the Southern Alps, Lyttelton Harbour (Whakaraupo), Christchurch and the ocean. Shop for souvenirs in the gift shop, grab a snack at the cafe during the day or dine at the restaurant in the evening. Your ticket includes the Time Tunnel exhibit, an automated amusement park style ride through audiovisual displays that depict the region’s natural and human history. You can also access walking and biking trails from the summit if you’d like to further explore the mountain.

Punting on the Avon River:
Step into a punt (a small flat-bottomed boat) for a tranquil 30-minute ride down the Avon River. A punter navigates the traditional boat with a long pole, similar to the classic boats used on the canals of Venice. During your relaxing experience, admire the city’s leafy woodlands, trailing willows, the Christchurch Botanic Gardens and other sights along the river. While you float, your punter shares fun facts about the places you see and the city’s history. Umbrellas and blankets protect you from all weather conditions, and comfortable cushioned seats provide the perfect spot to cuddle next to your sweetie or share the scenic ride with friends.

Christchurch Botanic Gardens:
Near the city center on the banks of the Avon River, the vast Christchurch Botanic Gardens feature acres of landscaped gardens and a superb collection of native and exotic plant species. Your admission includes a ride on the eco-friendly caterpillar shuttle (an electric, solar-powered, open-air vehicle), which takes you through the extensive grounds. Your shuttle driver shares details about the gardens, long considered an oasis in the center of the city. Hop on and off the shuttle if you'd like to take a closer look at tropical plants in the conservatories, large rose gardens and other highlights. It’s also an ideal picnic spot and a nice quiet getaway not far from the downtown bustle. Check out the revamped Visitor Centre’s cafe, gift shop and interactive exhibits, and look for photos of British royals the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, who attended the center’s reopening ceremony in 2014.

Christchurch Tram:
Ride the exquisitely restored Christchurch Tram, a heritage vehicle and hop-on hop-off tour that takes you to 17 destinations in central Christchurch, including Cathedral Square, Avon River, Hagley Park, Canterbury Museum, Re:START Mall and New Regent Street. Your driver provides informative commentary about landmarks, sights and history during the journey through one of the areas that was hit hard during the earthquakes of 2010 and 2011. Witness the rebuilding and renewal of Christchurch, and hop off the tram at any of the stops to explore further; you can reboard whenever you like that day. The entire circuit without hopping off takes about 50 minutes.
