Departing Christchurch in the morning, we travel through the fertile farmland of Canterbury Plains towards the shores of glacier-fed Lake Tekapo. Stretch your legs and visit the famous Church of the Good Shepherd which sits in picturesque solitude on the foreshores of the lake, before the journey continues to Mount Cook Village.
Enjoy lunch at the Hermitage Hotel (optional extra) and soak up breathtaking views of UNESCO World Heritage Site, Aoraki Mount Cook National Park. On this Mount Cook day tour, there's time to explore surrounding walking tracks and photograph the alpine surroundings in this unique region. For a different perspective, you have the option to take a scenic flight (additional cost, weather permitting, can be booked by your driver on the day).
As we drive out of Mount Cook National Park, we enter the Mackenzie Basin and stop for afternoon tea (own expense) in the rural farming community of Omarama before beginning the ascent up and over the Lindis Pass into the historical gold mining region of Central Otago.
Arrive in the small town of Tarras, where a shuttle service will take you on the last leg of your journey to Wanaka, located on the shores of Lake Wanaka. Upon reaching Wanaka, your one-way sightseeing tour comes to an end and you'll be transferred to your hotel.
