Explore the Marlborough Sounds on foot with one of the popular self-guided walks on the Queen Charlotte Track. Choose from three walks of varying length and challenge, with options that may include Ship Cove, Endeavor Inlet or Torea Bay. Round-trip boat service takes you to the start of your route and picks you up at the end. The day hikes offer a great way to experience the natural beauty of the Queen Charlotte Track within a shorter time frame.Please note that the return times to Picton and pick up times are on a set schedule, you will not return to Picton until between 5:30pm-6:00pm. Please advise us if you are visiting with a Cruise Ship as our boat timings may not get you back in time for the ships departure from Port.

The entire Queen Charlotte Track runs 44 miles (70 km) and is renowned for great views of the Queen Charlotte Sound, lush native plant life and historic landmarks. To hike the entire track takes a few days, but you can enjoy a spectacular day out walking a section of the track.
A round-trip boat service from Picton drops you off in the morning at one end of your hike and picks you up at the other end in the late afternoon. You can purchase a drink or bite to eat at the lodges at the end of each walk and enjoy complimentary tea or coffee on the return boat. Please bring your own snacks and drinks to keep you fortified during the day’s walk.
Please note that return times to Picton are at a set time, you will return to Picton between 5:30pm-6:00pm. Please check advise us if you are visiting on a cruise ship as our boat timings may not work with your cruise ship return.

Nature's Best Walk
One of the most popular day hikes, the moderately challenging 5-hour walk between Ship Cove and Furneaux Lodge covers 9 miles (14 km). After a scenic boat ride to the start of your walk, take a moment to discover the history of Ship Cove. In 1770, Captain James Cook resupplied his ship here and it became his favorite anchorage in New Zealand.
