This tour departs from either Glenorchy or Queenstown. On arrival every group receives a full safety briefing a equipment. We use double sea kayaks and each person will be outfitted with a spray deck, personal floatation device, jacket and waterproof camera bags are available on request.
We launch our kayaks on a secluded beach on the shores of Lake Wakatipu. On the water we finish our safety briefings and begin our paddle across to Pigeon island. When we arrive at the island we have some options and we manage the tour to the groups abilities and the conditions. We can land on one of the beaches for morning/afternoon tea and take a walk. On the island there is much to see from wildlife and unique vegetation to historical remnants of farming, saw milling or Maori habitation.
There is also the option of carrying on around the islands to land up on one of the more remote beaches. With native bird life all around and the still waters of Lake Wakatipu lapping on the beach there are some great places for morning/afternoon tea and perhaps a quick swim if the day is hot.
Back on the water we will continue kayaking and return to the beach we launched from. The tour lasts 2 to 3hours and our guides have many exciting stories of history, geography, ecology and yarns of personal trips taken in the mountains around.
