Take off from Rotorua aboard your helicopter with your experienced pilot-guide. As you soar above the Northern Lakes district, snap photos of the numerous lakes below including Lake Rotorua, Lake Rotoiti and over Hells Gate before crossing the coast.
Situated 31 miles (50 km) offshore from the North Island, White Island lies within the Taupo Volcanic Zone. Its main vent, located below sea level and protected by crater walls, is responsible for the activity in the island’s crater lake. Upon landing on the moon-like surface, start your 1- to 1.5-hour leisurely walking tour of the crater floor to see fumaroles (active steam vents), hot streams and ever-changing features like sulphur formations.
Walk through old mining ruins to view the weathered remains of a factory abandoned in 1933, and hear from your informative guide about the island's history, geology, wildlife and vegetation, such as gannet colonies and the remnants of a once-thriving pohutukawa forest.
On your return flight to Rotorua, take in aerial views of the Bay of Plenty.

A very memorable adventure - we loved it! The helicopter flight was great, and the approach to and landing on White Island exciting. The short walk round the volcano was fascinating and other-worldly. It was strangely compelling to walk inside the crater, and we found it hard to leave! A highlight of our New Zealand trip!

Wow! To walk in the crater of an active volcano..such an incredible experience! Our pilot was very knowledgeable, and they provide masks to help with the sting in your throat caused by the sulfur. It was also a plus to see Rotorua and the Bay of Plenty from the sky. Highly recommend this tour.

Really incredible. Worth every penny and extremely fun and interesting. Flying in a helicopter is more fun than I'd imagined, and the sights on the volcano are really cool. If you want to experience something exclusive and memorable, this is it.

An absolute must do if you're in Rotorua. This was honestly one of the coolest things I have ever done in my life. The flight, approach and landing to the volcano are spectacular. Then to actually walk around the island right up to the crater is just amazing. Our pilot was great and did his best to make the trip as enjoyable as possible as did the rest of the team on the ground. A great day and definitely one of the highlights of our trip to New Zealand.
