You will leave Florence at 9:30am in a air-conditioned private van and head into the Chianti regions.
Along the way, we will visit the medieval Monteriggioni fortress. The 800 year old fortress was built by the city of Siena as a defence against Florence. The fortress also defended the Via Francigena, the ancient road and religious route used by Pilgrims to travel to Rome from England.
After exploring the impressive Monteriggioni fortress, you will head to a small farm to enjoy a multi-course Tuscan lunch.
In the afternoon, you will head to Siena, one of the most beautiful cities in Tuscany. You will see the spectacular Piazza del Campo, where the famous Palio horse race takes place, the wonderful Santa Maria Assunta cathedral and the San Domenico Basilica, where Saint Cathrine’s relics are preserved. You will walk through downtown Siena (a UNESCO heritage site), admiring its narrow streets and contradas.
The perfect end to the night is the beautiful drive back to Florence through the picturesque Chianti landscape. Return back to Florence around 7:30pm.
