Meet your guide at the Piazza della Signoria, the beautiful square that was the political hub of Florence in the Middle Ages. Hear intriguing snippets about Florence's history, and how it was ruled by the wealthy Medici family between the 14th and 18th centuries as you admire the sculptures and architecture of the piazza.

Next, bypass the lines at the Uffizi Gallery and enter with your guide, heading for the gallery’s great masterworks on the top floor. Admire paintings by Uccello, Lippi and Giotto and wonder at the priceless The Birth of Venus by Botticelli, Annunciation by Leonardo da Vinci and Michelangelo’s Sacred Family.

After a break for coffee (own expense) at the Uffizi’s panoramic terrace, enter the Vasari Corridor, an elevated, enclosed corridor linking the Uffizi and Pitti Palace (Pitti Palazzo). Built in 1564, this art-laden passage enabled the Medicis to walk unseen between the city center and the Pitti, their opulent residence.

Walk along the corridor, which crosses the Ponte Vecchio bridge, and admire its paintings and stunning views of the Arno River below. Exit the corridor at the Boboli Gardens near the Pitti, and as you enter these formal gardens, stop to admire the Buontalenti Grotto, the 16th-century sanctuary that featured in Dan Brown’s bestselling novel Inferno.

After free time for lunch (own expense), skip the lines at the Pitti Palace and follow your guide to its Palatine Gallery. Hear how this vast Renaissance palace was home to the Medicis and how they amassed much of its art collection. Walk around and see masterpieces by the like of Rubens, Rafael and Titian, all set in the sumptuously decorated rooms.

At the end of your tour, say goodbye to your guide and spend more time in the gallery, or leave and enjoy Florence as you wish.

    we did this in 2 parts elena took us to the Uffizi which was amazing with the art work-it was very crowded but our small group skipped the line and had a fantastic time. the line was enormous even for those with Florence passes. great museum and the Vasari corridor was wonderful with all the selfportraits and frescoes
    .
    in the after noon we saw the pitti palace with Roberta who was excellent-we ended up with a private tour which was awesome! some wonderful rafeal,donattello etc paintings. it is a huge museum which we really loved.
