You’ll be picked up from your Naples hotel in the morning and taken by car to Sorrento, where your Vespa tour starts. Strap on your helmet, hop on the back of a vintage Piaggio Vespa, and let your expert guide take you on a scenic, invigorating ride along the breathtaking Amalfi Coast, stretching 31 miles (50 km) along the southern side of the Sorrentine Peninsula.
First, spend some time exploring the small town of Sorrento, a popular tourist destination overlooking the Bay of Naples with Naples, Capri and Mt Vesuvius in the distance. Then travel along the characteristic curves of the coastline while taking in incredible views. You’ll stop in several coastal towns to explore by foot, sightsee, take photos and enjoy free time to wander at your leisure.
Make your way to Positano, perhaps the coast's most photogenic town, with steeply stacked houses cascading down to the sea. On your visit here, you'll begin to understand why famous author John Steinbeck described Positano as "...a dream place that isn’t quite real when you are there and becomes beckoningly real after you have gone.”
Stop for coffee and cake (included) about an hour into your tour before continuing along the coast to the town of Amalfi, once the capital of the maritime republic of Duchy of Amalfi, an important trading power in the Mediterranean between 839 and 1200.
Around 1:30pm you’ll head to nearby Pogerola for a classic Italian lunch at a local restaurant (own expense). Your final stopover is Ravello, a scenic town perched high on a hill overlooking Amalfi. Soak up the romantic, otherworldly atmosphere of this refined, polished town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site known for its ravishing gardens and stupendous views.
Here, you can choose to visit Villa Rufolo or Villa Cimbrone. Villa Rufolo is a 13th-century palace built by Nicola Rufolo, one of the richest Patricians of Ravello. The gardens of this ledge-hugging palace were the inspiration for the garden scene in Richard Wagner’s famous opera Parsifal. Villa Cimbrone is a farmhouse-turned-palace, with views over the Gulf of Salerno. The garden of this villa -- now a luxury hotel -- is laid out along the clifftop and includes the Temple of Bacchus and several Roman statues.
You’ll also visit the Emerald Grotto, a cave located in Cape Conca that’s flooded with a brilliant blue or emerald light. Your Vespa ride ends back in Sorrento, where you’ll then transfer back to Naples by car, arriving in the evening.
