It was really great to be able to do both of these things in one day with lunch in the middle. The climb up Vesuvius and the tour of Pompeii were great. One thing to know ahead of time though is that they bring you to a restaurant for lunch in between the activities. Many of us thought that this was included in the price of the tour but it was not, we got a bill at the end of lunch. The voucher does not say that lunch is included, but the tour guide ushered us in as if we were obligated to eat there or as if it were an included activity. Just make sure to bring extra cash for that lunch.

Amazing tour and very well organised. The pick up point in Sorrento is a mission even after detailed instructions as it's not that obvious for those just visiting! However, once on the tour bus, we got plenty of information and Rafy, our guide was funny and knowledge. We first went to Pompeii on a hot day and saw the main sights together, where she gave the details. She manouvered us in and out of busy areas very deftly! However, I definitely think we could have spent more time visiting some other highlights here rather than spend 2 hours at the lunch place! That was termed optional for 14 euros each but when you are on a tour bus, the choices are limited. The restaurant is large and looks grand, and the lunch menu was varied and food fresh, unlike others that I have been to, so that was good. We then moved up to Mt Vesuvius, which had incredible views and I totally loved the journey as well. It is so atmospheric with thick forested areas around you - I wasn't expecting that. Also, the grand houses along the way are so neat and again something I wasn't expecting on an active volcano. You get to the base on the bus and from there, you can walk uphill on your own. Do take the cane that the guy at the start offers we paid him a euro at the end - even with sport shoes and being fit, the gravel on the mountain is pretty loose so that will definitely come in handy. It had rained that morning so the ground was a bit more slippery as well. All along the way, there was a big cloud cover and on the crater too. it didn't bother us as it is such a special thing to do and was the highlight of our trip. It takes around 20 minutes at least to walk up and down, longer if you have frequent stops, but the tour gives enough time to do this.

Our guide on the way to Pompei and in Pompei itself was amazing, very informative and interesting. We spent 2 hours in Pompei and in very hot summer day it's more than enough. Don't forget to take water with you as there is no possibility to buy water once You enter Pompei. Our guide took us to all most important sites in the city and we certainly got the idea how it was to live in this city before vulcano destroid it!
After Pompei we were taken to

A great trip thoroughly recommended. A must to see the vast site of Pompeii, without the guide to point out the key areas of interest you will miss them and even if you spent a couple of days you would not see everything. It is possible to do this on your own, but because the size of the site, you will miss so much. It is an appetite wetter, as you will probably want to visit again.
Mt Vesuvius was included in this tour, and although the weather was overcast and we didn't get the fantastic views across Naples bay, the crater is very dramatic with the hot steam rising which these conditions emphasised. Beware of the walk though. They say 20 minutes, and I guess if you are young and fit, like the school parties that were there on the day we went, yes 20 minutes, but for us it took 40 minutes and my wife never made the crater. A tough climb.

Transportation was convenient and comfortable. Lunch was ok. Pompeii tour guide was knowledgeable, but headsets had tremendous screeching which made it difficult and painful to hear. Vesuvius guide did not wait at the meeting point for the entire group so we were completely on our own.

Great experience. Would advise that if you want to get to the top of Vesuvius, you need to be prepared for one heck of an uphill hike, with limited time to do it. Other than that, Pompeii was amazing, our tour guide was outstanding.

Our guide for Pompeii was Fabio, and he was a font of knowledge - his enthusiasm for the site really shone through. He was able to really bring the ruins to life, and gave us a glimpse into the daily workings of the city. The pace of the tour was perfect - not too fast, but we were not hanging around either. The ruins themselves are amazing, but the help of an experienced guide really made a difference by making this a very enjoyable day.

Our guide, Fabrizio, was excellent. He was informative, entertaining and patient with all the tour guests. The bus driver was on time and a good driver considering all the twists and turns of the road.

The Pompeii experience was great. It was very crowded on the day we went so we appreciated having a guide who could take us to places to avoid the worst of the crowds. Vesuvius was worth doing but don't expect a very active volcano. It was again quite crowded and full of souvenir stalls.
