Start your day trip by boarding your air-conditioned coach in central Taormina, and then relax on the 1-hour journey inland to Mount Etna, the island’s brooding and spectacular nemesis. Set in the middle of a national park, Europe’s highest active volcano dominates the Sicilian landscape around it.
Hop out of your coach at the base station Rifugio Sapienza, and then enjoy roughly three hours at leisure to trek independently around the foothills of Mount Etna. The area is covered with hiking trails that zigzag in all directions, and your host will happily point you in the right direction for the Monti Silvestri Craters two small, yet impressive, craters near the base station.
If you want lunch before or after your hike, visit Rifugio Sapienza’s restaurant. Food and drinks are at your own expense, but the restaurant offers a good selection of hot and cold snacks.
Eager to visit Mount Etna upper crater? Upgrade to skip the three hours of independent time and head to approximately 3,000 meters height with an alpine guide, instead. Ascent by cable car up to 2,500 meters and continuing on board jeeps up to the authorized crater zones at approximately 3,000 meters with the assistance of licensed guides of the CAI (Italian Alpine Club); stop to admire the eventual activity of the summit craters in a safety zones according to weather conditions.
Then, return to Taormina in the comfort of your air-conditioned coach. Your day trip finishes with a drop-off at the start point.

The main departure place for all excursions is the Bus Terminal at Via Pirandello in Taormina. Please be at the meeting point at least 10 minutes before departure time. All customers with accommodation in Taormina centre will leave from the main Bus Terminal in Via Luigi Pirandello.
Pick-up is also available only on request in the areas of Taormina by the sea, Giardini Naxos, Recanati and Letojanni. Please contact the supplier to reconfirm the excursion at least the day before and to get more information about the closest pick-up point.

Mount Etna is definitely worth seeing. This tour is more a bus ride to Etna than an experience, but is worth doing.

A great adventure for the whole family. We had a lot of fun visiting Mount Etna, hiking around and taking in the spectacular views. Unique, interesting place, even when it is not skiing season.

AMAZING guides were fantastic walked on warm larvae from recent eruption. Views were incredible had so much freedom to do what you wanted. Will always remember this trip
We went up the cable cars in further up via buses, but walking up was available to those fitter than us

Excellent tour. Don't normally take organised tours on holiday, but this seemed a good way to manage a trip to Etna without own car. Very well organised with the opportunity to spend some time on your own. Excellent guide provided just the right amount of information. Would recommend taking the full tour including cable car and jeep ride. Make sure you take a warm jacket.

Oh my gosh! What an adventure. We really enjoyed our Mount Etna trip. It was a pity the cable car wasn't operating on the day of our visit due to winds, but we enjoyed so much nevertheless. The views from the mountain, the excitement of walking through the black ash/rock. When we reached 9,000 feet, it was so windy and cold and we couldn't see too far in front of us, however we had an excellent quide whose information on the volcano was brilliant. Felt so refreshed and energised after our day. Marco, our guide throughout was a mine of information and Enzo, our driver, was very experienced and a very safe driver.

Very well organised --we went to the summit and it was very windy, definitely a good idea to hire coats. Spectacular views and a very strange landscape--all in all we'll worth it. I don't think we would have enjoyed it so much if we hadn't gone to the summit. we were back in Giardini Naxos for a late afternoon swim which was great.
