Meet your guide outside Gran Teatre del Liceu in the La Rambla area of Barcelona. Head inside, and listen to your guide’s introduction about the building and its history as you explore. Restored after a fire in the 1990s, the opera house is said to be one of the world’s most technologically advanced theaters with state-of-the-art acoustics and use of the latest theater technology.
Follow your guide from the main staircase up to the reconstructed 19th-century auditorium with its sumptuous red velvet seats, and wander into the Hall of Mirrors. As its name suggests, the room is adorned with mirrors that elegantly frame the hall’s black and white marble floor. Gild, gold, chandeliers and a frescoed ceiling add to the opulence, making it one of the most chic intermission spots one can find.
From the Hall of Mirrors, work your way around the theater to El C?rculo del Liceo, an English-style private club. Home to a hoard of modernist art — including works by the renowned Ramon Casas — the venue hosts some of the city’s top art and culture events such as recitals, lectures and award ceremonies.
After an hour exploring the theater, your tour finishes back at the start point.
