Make your own way to La Rambla, Barcelona’s most famous boulevard, and head inside the Iberian ham shop opposite La Boqueria Market (Mercat de La Boqueria). Meet your guide, a master meat carver, and mingle with your fellow tasters as you take your place around the large, group table.

Listen to your guide talk about Spain’s culinary heritage, and then begin your session with a fascinating audio-visual presentation for a more in-depth look at how Iberian ham is produced. Learn how the breed of pig and what it's fed (for instance, acorns) creates each type of ham, and hear how different curing processes bring out different characteristics in the meat.

After the interactive presentation, it’s time to taste some of the delicious ham for yourself. Once your guide carves the first sample and everyone has been served, taste your first bite of ham, either by itself or with a pico (bread stick).

Throughout the course of the tasting, sample six different varieties of ham from regions such as Huelva, Extremadura, Guijuelo and Valle de los Pedroches. You’ll also pair your ham with a glass of wine, beer or cava, a sparkling wine produced in Catalonia.

After roughly an hour, your experience ends inside the shop, leaving you perfectly placed to explore the city center for more culinary delights.

The information was interesting but very impersonal experience. They cattle herd you through a movie about the Iberian process, then seat you at a table where they slap down a plate with 6 different hams. That's it. Disappointing.

This tour was interesting And very enjoyable. We were lucky as our group for very small, so were able to ask our Jamon carver lots of questions. We enjoyed the tasting so much we stoped In the shop at the end to purchase some to bring home!

I went to this ham experience invited by a friend and was surprised about how much I learnt. The didactive presentation was very interesting, which really helped to appreciate the ham tasting afterwards (which was yummy). A very nice affordable experience that doesn't require much time and teaches you about local gastronomy.
