Unfortunately the caves were closed. Montserrat Abbey was beautiful. My only complaint was that there was a tremendous amount of walking, much of it uphill.

Maintenance of the caves area made it impossible to visit the caves. We did fill the time available visiting the abbey and attending a church service with the choristers singing.
The one day strike in Barcelona made it difficult to get out of town, but the driver did it.
The tour guide was excellent.
We learned a lot about the area and its roll in pilgrimages to Santiago de Campostela.

Fantastic tour. The caves were fascinating. The climb can be quite steep inside the caves and therefore that section is not ideal for everyone. The Abbey is a beautiful place and spiritual.

This tour is very informative and worthwhile taking. Our tour guide Catalina was very nice and knowledgeable.

There were just four in our group, plus Monica our guide and the driver. It was a wonderful day packed with fantastic sights and great history. Monica made sure we got to see as much as possible. After the mass we were able to get into the cathedral to see and hear the boys choir. Later in the day we went back and were able to see and touch the Black Madonna.
There were also many dance groups there performing in the square. It was fun to see the different costumes.
Two of us rode to the top of the mountain on the funicular with Monica and the other two went to the museum. Views from the top were phenomenal. Would have loved to have time to walk to one of the hermit's huts.
Took a hike along the Stations of the
Cross Pathway- beautiful and it literally took my breath away.........some steep areas.
This tour was terrific and our guide was wonderful.

We highly recommend putting Montserrat Abbey on your Barcelona travel schedule. Our tour guide Monica was totally amazing, a font of knowledge, Barcelonal history, Abbey history, landmark history -- it was like having a tour from a University Professor with a delightful personality. We felt we were friends by the end of the tour. One additional note, the Caves happened to be under repair at the time of our visit, so we were offered other options including a partial refund. We chose the funicular ride instead and that was also an excellent option that we thoroughly enjoyed. This site and tour was well worth the investment of time and funds.

Great guide. This is a must-see in Barcelona, it was part of the Sagrada Familia experience.

Fantastic tour and Fantastic Guide. The explanations given by the personal guide were exhaustive from the geology of the caves to the turbulent history of the catalans and their Montserrat Abbey. Would definitely recommend it to families with kids who want to experience something different.
