Discover the interior of The Tarragona Cathedral, The Cloister and The Diocesan Museum
with an audio-guide. The cathedral was originally raised at the top of the hill of the an ancient Roman city, on the remains of the temple of Augustus. Its floor plan is in the form of a Latin cross, with three naves, the head is of Romanesque tradition with half-point arches following the techniques of the Gothic movement. The chapels which show art’s stylistic evolution with examples of flamboyant Gothic, Renaissance, Baroque and Neoclassicism.
You will find in the main nave the great organ of more the 2700 tubes, a splendid rose window which fills the middle of the nave and many other important historical memories and beautiful works of art, dedicated to St Thecla.
In the Cloister, with columns decorated with biblical, legendary, hagiographer and moral themes you will find a splendid interior garden. The Museum, founded in 1914 has around 6,000 pieces, of which some 350 are on display to show visitors a highly diverse chronological, stylistic and artistic discourse of the local art and archaeology.
