Start with a pickup from the Santa Cruz port, and travel by air-conditioned minibus with your private guide to the northeastern inland region of the island. As you travel, chat about the itinerary, and if you would perhaps like to focus on one area more than another, simply let your guide know.

Soon your route hits the leafy lanes of the Esperanza forest, a tranquil spot that's popular with hikers. Pass alongside towering pine trees and eucalyptus plants, and stop in La Esperanza, a village perched on the edge of the Cumbre Dorsal mountain ridge.

Make your way to Chimage Mirador, a beautiful village vantage point that looks out over the island. Ogle the sweeping forest vistas, and then continue into Las Lagunetas, another spectacular forested park, blanketed with pine trees and fertile vegetation. Learn about the park’s role in soil conservation, and hear of the rare native plant species that are found inside its boundaries.

Continue into Teide National Park and stop at two other vantage points, one at La Tarte and the other at Izana Observatory, to soak up views of Mt Teide. A stunner from every angle, Mt Teide is also an active volcano and holds the prestige of one of Spain’s highest peaks. Take photos of the natural landmark, and then enjoy a walk through the rock formations of Roque Garcia, the lush landscapes of the Uncanca Valley and Teide National Park.

Pass through the Orotava Valley (Valle de la Orotava) to see an intriguing lava formation known locally as ‘the rose,’ and then call in at a local bodega for a tour. Enjoy a welcome drink, and learn about wine production, seeing where the wine is aged and stored. Then, sit down for a lunch with a glass of wine, produced by the estate. The lunch dishes often change, but typically a choice is offered between a traditional Canarian meal of chicken, beef or pork with salted potatoes and fresh vegetables, or a tapas lunch featuring an assortment of serrano ham, goat cheese, bread and salad.

Leave the bodega in the late afternoon, and travel back to the Santa Cruz port where your shore excursion finishes.
