This tour will lead you to places that you might have heard about but don't know about. Start in the heart of the Bangladeshi community surrounded by street vendors selling everything from fish to fabrics. Take a walk through this famous neighbourhood and hear stories of immigration, development, gentrification and taking in the sights, sound and smells of Banglatown (the curry mile).
Continue on to explore the art and entertainment district of Shoreditch. Every street and hidden courtyard have spectacular murals, graffiti writing, paste ups and installations. You will learn about the graffiti world, the people behind it and how it influenced change in the area. Discover the techniques, tools and decipher some political or humorous art. Stroll by the Nomadic Community Garden, an innovative idea to help the local community that are struggling with the rise in rent and food.
Enjoy a 45 minute break and spend it at your own leisure. Feel free to explore the area as you wish. Once that's done, meet up and take public transport to your next destination: Brixton
Brixton is hard to sum up in words it's a place you just have to go and be part of its atmosphere. A community that is so diverse people from all over the world. Art is a huge part of this community with Installations commissioned by the council to illegal paintings on walls. Visit the recycled shipping container village boasting work studios for local residents, a performance stage and pop up shops, bars and restaurants. Brixton is also the place Nelson Madela chose to make his first visit when he came to London.
By now it's time to end the journey through London's Subcultures and end the day with a well deserved beer.
