Following pickup from your Brussels hotel by coach, make the 40-minute drive south to city of Waterloo, where notorious French Emperor Napoleon Bonaparte met his final defeat in 1815 in one of the most epic battles in history.

Listen as your guide gives an overview of the Battle of Waterloo, during which the French army fell to the Duke of Wellington’s British and Prussian forces, signaling the end of Bonaparte’s controversial reign and the end of France’s domination in Europe. Waterloo is considered one of the most pivotally important battles of the 19th century, affecting the fortunes of France, Belgium, Great Britain and many other nations.

Drive past the Duke of Wellington’s former headquarters and listen as your guide explains the battle strategies planned there. Then head out onto the battlefield, where you’ll see where the forces entered into combat and view the grand Gordon Monument, in honor of Allied Lieutenant-Colonel Sir William Alexander Gordon of the Scots Guards.

Continue to La Haye Sainte and discover how this collection of farm buildings served as a hiding place for the Duke’s troops. Pass by La Belle Alliance, an inn that Napoleon had as his headquarters, and admire the Prussian Monument in the now peaceful village of Plancenoit, where the Prussian allies attacked Napoleon’s forces and won a key victory during the battle. Climb up Lion Hill, a man-made monumental hill erected in honor of William II of the Netherlands, who was killed here during the battle.

Finish your Waterloo tour with a visit to Hougoumont Farm, where the Scottish Coldstream Guards protected the Duke’s advancing forces in one of the battle’s bloodiest episodes.

Hop on the coach in the evening for the return journey to central Brussels.

This should have been rated as excellent but due to the shortage of time at the places we visited it was disappointing for that reason alone. The guide was very good with excellent knowledge, coach comfortable with very pleasant and safe driver. It is such an interesting subject and more time should be given to allow people to discover more about this important part of history.

The guide was excellent and she explained everything just as you would want her to.
The lion hill monument was worth the long walk up the steps to a fantastic view. Overall the tour was well worth it.

This was the best way to cover all of the most important Waterloo sites! We had a wonderful guide, Florance. The group was not too large. We stopped over at the Wellington headquarters, the Waterloo battlefield visitor center completely new with great exhibits and a 15 minute 3D movie at the end, climbed the Lion Mound just expect to be out of breath by the time you climb to the top, unless you are 8 or run marathons for fun - the view is worth it, and finally, the Hougoumont farm. Until the town of Waterloo starts offering a shuttle service from their train station to all of the mentioned sites, I highly recommend this tour.

A very good tour, with a very informative guide. A little longer at the places of interest would have been welcome. In addition, I think the coach could have made a tour of relevant sites of the battles fought on that day, as they are all very close together. Also the many monuments and definitely where Wellington and Blucher met.
