Day 1: La Paz Lake Titicaca Copacabana (L, D)
Your 2-day Lake Titicaca tour begins early at your hotel in La Paz, where your guide will be waiting for you with a private vehicle. The three-hour drive to Copacabana flies by with the guide’s anecdotes of local Andean culture. Soon, the mesmerizing cobalt-blue Lake Titicaca comes into view.
Lake Titicaca sits on the Altiplano, a high plateau of the Andes. As you cruise along the lake, admire the glacier-capped peaks of the Cordillera Real (Royal Range of the Andes). Stop at lakeside villages, and watch the indigenous Aymara build boats and baskets out of totora reed, a local aquatic plant.
To get to Copacabana, do as the locals do and take a ferry. After lunch at a place recommended by your guide, visit the Basilica of the Virgin and note its Moorish-style domes and blue ceramic tiles. Inside, check out the Dark Virgin of the Lake, believed to have brought about many miracles. Folklore says that if she’s removed from the cathedral, the lake will rise and flood the town. Moral of the story? No touching.
But feel free to handle beautiful wares during a visit to artisan stalls near the waterfront of Lake Titicaca. In the late afternoon, take a short but challenging hike up Cerro Calvario (the Stations of the Cross) for amazing sunset views.
After dinner, sleep well at a charming Andean inn in Copacabana. You may opt to stay in lodging on Sun Island for an additional fee.
Overnight: 3-star Andean inn
Day 2: Copacabana Sun Island La Paz (B, L)
Rise early this morning, enjoy breakfast at your inn and hike to a vista to watch the sun rise over Lake Titicaca. From there, your guide takes you to a privately chartered motorboat for an hour-long ride to Sun Island.
Sun Island is considered to be the birthplace of the Inca civilization. In Yumani, on the south side of the island, climb the 206 steps constructed by the Incas that lead to the Fountain of Life. Wander through the archaeological ruins of the Incan Pilko Kaina Temple, and observe how locals still use pre-Incan farming methods on the steep agricultural terraces.
If you’re up for it, hike a trail that crosses over the ridge to the north side of the island. Visit the native village of Challapampa and its museum displaying Incan artifacts. Alternatively, you can wend through the Chincana labyrinth of stone.
Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant. After Sun Island, your guide takes you back to your hotel in La Paz. As you approach La Paz at dusk, the sun sets over the Altiplano, ending your tour on a perfect note. With advance notice, you can be dropped off in Puno for an additional fee.

A tour! We loved our driver and guides. They were knowledgeable, funny, and a pleasure to spend 2 days with! They tailored the trip to what we wanted to linger on and what we wanted to breeze through. The hike around Sun Island was amazing and I'd recommend this trip to any other folks new to Bolivia. Can I go again?

The views are wonderful. Driver Jose was careful and sensitive of our needs. David drove excessively fast and carelessly. The drive was scary. The transport car leaves much to be desired. Oscar was wonderful, knowledgeable and a beautiful person. He made the trip worthwhile.
The tour in itself could and should be better structured, as there were many aspects not covered e.g., challa men, tratorra builders.
