Meet your local guide at your chosen time and start with an orientation session to get familiar with your two-wheeled, electric, self-balancing Segway. Once you feel comfortable, you’ll follow your guide through the avenues of Thessaloniki, a city with a history of twenty three centuries, named after the sister of Alexander the Great. Feeling the breeze on your Segway, you will enjoy the charm of its' coastline, which is peppered with monuments and sites, testament to the city's adventure through the times.
The tour is starting from the Modiano Market, the central marketplace and then passes by the region of Pazar Hamam, the Turkish baths that once were the meeting point of the Islamic community. The tour then visits the historic district of Ladadika, once commercial center and now-protected landmark of Thessaloniki.
Thessaloniki’s past takes our tour naturally to the port district and its 20th century warehouses and Customs which now host cultural activities and exhibitions. Feeling the breeze while following the coastline of Thessaloniki the tour reaches the emblematic White Tower. This 15th century Ottoman edifice built on the ruins of a Byzantine Tower and part of the city's fortifications miraculously survived the fate of the rest and is at the heart of many stories.
The tour then passes by the statues of Philip B' which united the Greek cities under one rule and that of his son, the world-famous Alexander the Great, who through tactics, diplomacy and politics managed to turn the Greek Alliance to an empire spanning three continents. From this grandiose statue of Alexander on his horse Bucephalus, we pass on to a different yet equally impressive sculpture, Zongolopoulos' "umbrellas". This amazing piece of art, one of the most photographed in Greece has transformed its site into a meeting point for Thessaloniki's youth and is often portrayed as a symbol of modern Thessaloniki.
Gliding along the coastline once more the tour is headed back to Aristotelous, the main axis connecting Thessaloniki's past with its modern face. Aristotelous Square is the perfect place to get a feeling of the pace of life in this unique city. The square and the street are named after the great ancient philosopher, Aristotle whose bronze statue is where the tour comes to an end.
Throughout the tour, the guide takes care to make regular stops, when necessary or available, so that the guests have the opportunity and time to take photos, rest etc. Our tours are flexible, so that a group can make more frequent stops, or take a couple of extra minutes at a certain site and then make up for the delay. The tour guide, the Segway safety orientation and the helmet are all included in the price. The tour does not enter any archaeological sites or monuments, so entrance fees are not included. Transfer, food and drinks are also not included in the price.
