Meet your cooking instructor at the Hotel Mets Komagome in Tokyo, and walk over to Shimofuri Ginza Shopping Street. Pick up the ingredients for your meal as you walk along the street and take in the market atmosphere.
Then head to your instructor’s private home to begin your 1.5-hour cooking class. Learn to prepare three to four dishes, starting with miso soup. Other dishes may include takikomi gohan (mixed rice), grilled fish, broiled fish, oyakodon (chicken and egg rice bowl), a Japanese omelette, or nikujaga (meat, potato and onion stew). At the end of the class, you may take the recipes with you to impress your friends back home.
Sit down to enjoy the meal you helped to create, and then take part in a tea ceremony led by your instructor. After the ritual, your instructor serves the tea accompanied by sweets while telling you about the Zen elements of the ceremony, the history of tea and the customs of Japanese hospitality.
At the end of your experience, your instructor walks you to Komagome Station.
