Knowing the markets is essential to understanding the life of a Chilango (a local from Mexico City). In this experience, you'll explore one of the typical local markets where you can meet its vendors, walk the aisles filled with fruits, vegetables, spices and moles, eat in a comida corrida (fast food) joint and try the homemade delights that only a Mexican cook can prepare. You'll get a bag of sweets that you can take as a souvenir or eat them at the end of the tour.
The culinary blossoming of the city has given way to the creation of gourmet markets that are an obligatory stop when visiting Mexico City. Enter this chic world of food fashion and try the delights that Mexico has to offer. Meet Mexican cheese expert curators who travel to small towns to find the best micro cheese making producers, taste snacks from corn specialists and let yourself be amazed by an internationally renowned Mexican chocolatier. Taste amazing chocolate flavors like caf? de olla, mezcal with orange, and lime with chia. You'll also have the opportunity to try the tascalate, a typical chocolate drink with achiote (annatto), corn, vanilla and sugar.
Then, head over to one of the most exclusive gourmet shops with some of the best honey, jams, preserves, mezcal, salts and more, where you'll have free time to shop around before moving on to one of the favorite places of Chilangos; long lines are made here in order to eat these highway treats, in this place visited by artists, designers, musicians and citizens of La Roma.
The journey continues in one of the hidden gems of this area. The best green pozole in town is eaten here, and if you visit on a weekend, you can see people bring big buckets so that they can take this delicious broth prepared with pumpkin seeds, hominy and pork to family gatherings.
There is nothing like Mexican coffee, and the Colonia Roma has been witnessing the coffee boom that is taking place in the city. You'll visit a specialty caf? where you can taste coffee made with chocolate from Oaxaca, which you can drink as you walk to the sweetest part of this tour.
On this tour, you'll have the opportunity to walk this amazing city while learning the incredible relationship between Mexico’s history of its food and people. Hear stories about distinguished citizens and find out the origin and preparation of each of the dishes you will eat. The cuisine of Mexico is so important that it has been named by UNESCO as an “Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity”.
