Begin your Bucharest sightseeing tour in front of the Romanian Atheneum, one of the most beautiful concert halls in this part of Europe. After an introduction to the Romanian capital, explore the Revolution Square and find out more about the Romanian anticommunist revolution of December 1989. See also the famous balcony from which the former dictator Nicolae Ceausescu held it's last speech. Also on this square, the University Library and the statue of Romania's first king Carol I, as well as the former Royal Palace, nowadays the National Arts Museum.
On the Revolution Square take the comfortable Hop-On, Hop-Off Bus along the Victory Road for great panoramic views (24-hour ticket included!). Bucharest is an interesting mix of architectural styles. You will see many Belle Epoque buildings, but also modernist and Art Deco buildings from the 1920s, 30s and 40s.
Leave the bus at the Palace of Parliament, the second largest building in the world, after the Pentagon. You will have a guided tour of the Parliament (security check at the entrance) and find out more about this building. Huge quantities of marble, wood and crystal were used for it's construction and a surface equal to the surface of Venice was demolished in the 1980s in the center of Bucharest to make place for the whole project which included the Ceausescu Palace, the nowadays Palace of Parliament.
After leaving the Paliament we will reach after a short walk the Old Town. Admire one of the very few old inns of Bucharest, the Manuc Inn, the ruins of the former princely court of Vlad the Impaler and the oldest church of Romania's capital, the St. Anthony's church. Discover together with your guide this former merchants quarter and enjoy lunch at one of the many good restaurants.
In the afternoon take again the Hop-On, Hop-Off bus and drive on the large tree-lined boulevards and admire the residences and small town palaces of Romania's aristocracy in the 19th century. In the Northern part of the city visit the fascinating Village Museum, an open-air museum, where old houses from different regions of Romania were brought.
In the late afternoon, your tour ends where it started, on the Revolution Square.
