Stop At: Faberge Museum, St. Petersburg, Northwestern District

On this 1-hour tour you will have a private museum guide with you and comfortable transportation to the museum. You will be met in the hotel lobby and the tour will finish near the Faberge Museum. Only 50 imperial eggs were ever made, right here in St Petersburg, by jeweler to the tsars Carl Faberg?. Each was given as a lavish Easter gift by the last two tsars to their wives and mothers. Like every imperial egg, those in place here - whether gold or agate, enameled or jeweled - are exquisite. Beyond the imperial eggs, there are snuff boxes, figurines and fabulous objets d'art from the House of Faberg? and other noted Russian jewelers, plus a gallery of classical Russian paintings and a roomful of religious icons.
Shuvalov Palace is a masterpiece in itself; all parquet floors and richly upholstered walls that reflect the sheer opulence of Russia's imperial age. But lovely as the house and its exhibitions are, the imperial eggs - Faberg?'s finest works - remain the star attraction. With their extravagance, delicate beauty and tragic, regal history, both they and Carl Faberg?'s genius are truly legendary.
