Day 1: St Petersburg
Meet your private guide at St Petersburg port and hop into your air-conditioned minivan to begin your first day of sightseeing. Start with a visit the 18th-century Winter Palace, part of the Hermitage Museum complex, built to reflect the power of imperial Russia and home for 200 years to many of the nation’s emperors.
After lunch (own expense), continue to the Peter and Paul Fortress, an 18th-century citadel where many powerful Russian emperors were laid to rest. During your tour, listen as your private guide details the fortress’ history and learn of the role it played during the Russian Revolution in 1917.
Visit the Church of the Savior on Spilled Blood — built on the spot where Emperor Alexander II was assassinated in 1881 — and admire its spectacular baroque and neoclassical exterior. Widely considered among St Petersburg’s most impressive attractions, the church holds a trove of valuable treasures.
After eight hours exploring the city, travel back to St Petersburg port with your private guide.
Day 2: St Petersburg
Following a morning pickup at St Petersburg port, travel out to the suburbs of the city to discover a side of St Petersburg away from the bustling center. On route, listen to live commentary from your guide and discover sites of cultural and historical interest.
Travel south to the town of Tsarskoye Selo and visit Catherine Palace, the summer residence of Russian emperors during the 18th century. Admire the palace’s impressive Rococo exterior then, during your 1.5-hour tour, marvel at the magnificent suites, grand hallways and plush dining rooms inside. If Catherine Palace is closed for any reason, visit Pavlovsk Palace, an 18th-century imperial residence constructed by Paul I of Russia.
Head onward to Peterhof Park, created in the 18th century by a host of master landscapers under Catherine the Great. During your 1.5-hour visit, follow your guide around the flowerbeds, fountains, ponds and statues in the park, and admire panoramic views across the beautiful lawns and orchards. Weather permitting, enjoy round-trip transport by hydrofoil boat to Peterhof Palace.
After, take a ride on St Petersburg’s metro and admire the beautifully decorated stations, then travel back to the port to finish your day’s visits.
Day 3: St Petersburg
Meet your private guide in the morning at St Petersburg port then travel to Yusupov Palace. During your 1.5-hour visit, listen as your private guide details the palace’s gruesome history and gain insight into the House of Yusupov — a powerful aristocratic family from the 18th and 19th centuries.
Enjoy a 1-hour tour of St Isaac's Cathedral, St Petersburg’s largest Russian Orthodox cathedral. Admire the ornate interior and listen as your private guide details the role the cathedral played in defending the city during World War II. Afterward, visit the nearby Kazan Cathedral and learn of Our Lady of Kazan, one of the holiest icons in the Russian Orthodox Church.
Head on to St Petersburg’s vibrant food market, where many of the city’s residents buy their fresh fruit and vegetables. During 40 minutes’ free time, admire the range of produce on sale, mingle with the locals and soak up the atmosphere in this bustling corner of the city. Afterward, browse a selection of souvenir shops nearby then return to St Petersburg port to conclude your tour.
