Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh is one of Asia’s most vibrant and welcoming cities, a cultural melting pot with a unique mix of French colonial architecture, Chinese influences, a modern entrepreneurial spirit and numerous temples.
Your private city sightseeing shore excursion begins with pickup at the port and a two-hour drive into Ho Chi Minh City. When you arrive with your guide, discover the stories of strength and resilience of country once in turmoil with a visit to the Reunification Palace. Formerly the home and workplace of the President of South Vietnam during the years of war with America, it was also the site where a North Vietnamese Army tank crashed through the gates, bringing an end to the war.
Next, visit the War Remnants Museum for a poignant look at the history and turbulence endured by the Vietnamese people.
Continue your tour by stepping back in time to the faded elegance of the French colonial years with a visit to Notre Dame Cathedral. An impressive building built in the 17th century, the church has twin bell towers reaching a height of 58 meters (190 feet), high vaulted ceilings and beautiful stained-glass windows.
End your tour at the Old Post Office, another example of fine French architecture, where you can purchase souvenir postcards and stamps. You’ll then be driven back to your port to re-board your cruise ship.
Please note: Because this tour does not include lunch, your guide can make a quick lunch stop midway through the tour or prior to dropping you off at the cruise port for you to purchase food (own expense).
