Rottnest Island is only a 40-minute hop from the Perth coast and a favorite weekend getaway for locals. Originally discovered by Dutch explorers in the 17th century, Rottnest Island has had an interesting history, as resting place for 13 shipwrecks, an Aboriginal penal colony and an internment camp during the world wars.
Rotto, as the locals call it, is unchanged over time and still maintains its rustic charm, with original heritage buildings and minimal development. As an A-Class Nature Reserve, Rottnest is committed to maintaining the natural environment, with bicycles the main form of transport (cars are practically non-existent).
You can choose to start your full-day island experience starts from Perth with a cruise down the Swan River and enjoy morning tea while passing local landmarks and the riverfront houses of Millionaire’s Row to the port town of Fremantle. Or you can choose to join the cruise in Fremantle. From Fremantle, it's just a short hop across the ocean to Rottnest Island.
Get to know Rottnest Island on a 90-minute guided thrilling high-speed wildlife cruise around the island, discovering secluded bays and inlets inhabited by birds, dolphins, seals and other marine life. The afternoon is free to explore the island at your leisure before departing for the mainland. Hire a bike and cycle out to one of the bays, go for a swim at the Basin, or meet the quokkas Rottnest’s cute resident marsupials.
In the afternoon, get back on the cruiser to make your way back to Fremantle or up the Swan River and back to Perth.

My husband and I took the tour last Sunday and thought it was fantastic. The speed boat ride was lots of fun and the crew, Ollie and Talitha provided great commentary and went that extra mile to find the wildlife around the island. We then spent the rest of the day looking around the island and had lunch at the pub. It's a lovely place to visit whilst in WA. And yes it was very easy to see the quokkas.

We had a blast! Great way to see the beautiful coast of the island. We were fortunate to come across a seal pup just a few weeks old, really special moment, he was adorable. High speed boat was heaps of fun!!!

Friday the 16th of March my sister and I booked a trip to Rottnest leaving from Fremantle at 9.30 AM on the Rottnest Ferry. We had booked a speed boat outing for an hour and a half going around the whole island. Damo the captain and Des the wildlife expert were our hosts. Instructions were given on how to exspierence a safer ride sitting at the back or more like a roller coaster at the front of the boat. Informing us if Damo sees a opportunity for adventure he is going to hit that wave so be ready for the thrills. Seeing dolphins and seals and then heading back to finish off with a couple of donuts naturally not to eat. Im sure everyone enjoyed the speed boat ride, I know my sister and I did

We had a fantastic day at Rottnest the speed boat tour made the day seeing the dolphins and seals up close was amazing.

Loved Rottnest Island and saw several Quokkas. The speed boat ride should not be missed. . We saw seals and stingrays up close riding in the boat. The boat took us to beautiful areas not accessed from the island.

Absolutely the best tour trip my wife and I have ever had the scenery around the island is amazing still pristine and unspoiled by tourism would recommend this tour to anyone you will get the thrill of your life and the crew of the fast speed boat Captain Guy and Des were excellent just make sure you sit at the middle to back of the boat as it can get pretty bumpy highly recommended

Everything about this trip fantastic except the lunch. Food inedible and really not necessary as plant of places to buy food or sit down and have a meal for far less.

I booked my tour over the phone with someone in Los Vegas. It was a pleasant interaction, and I thought all was in order. It turned out I was booked on the wrong tour. The one I did go on was nice, the boat ride was informative, but not worth the money. My time on the island was fun and interesting. Everyone should go over there if you are in Perth.
