Lying quietly deep inside Mount Iimori, Korankei is an autumn wonderland with a valley surrounded by a peaceful river and a forest carpeted with colorful maple trees. Covered by more than 4000 maple trees including Japanese maples and forest maples, Korankei Gorge transforms into a gorgeous red and yellow setting in late November to early December. Walk along the vermillion Taigetsukyo Bridge where you can admire spectacular views over Tomoe River. You will spend roughly 3 hours at the gorge.
Then take a peaceful walk underneath maple tree foliage to Kojakuji Temple, home of the very first maple tree in Korankei valley, which was planted in the year 1634. Enjoy the historic atmosphere and tranquility while visiting this Buddhist temple.
You can also visit a traditional Japanese village named Sanshu Asuke Yashiki, which preserves many old houses. Participating in daily activity workshops such as making bamboo baskets, straw sandals, indigo dyed handkerchiefs is the best way for you to experience Japanese culture in Korankei. (Entrance fee to Sanshu Asuke Yashiki is not included in the tour fee.)
